but not Deussen

Deussen, Paul. Allgemeine Geschichte der Philosophie, Band IV, 1913, S. 118.

One may attribute a fair amount to poetic imagination, but it is certain that the Hebrews traced back the creation and continuation of the world to a humanoid, a being with human characteristics and functions. This is the most daring and unlikely hypothesis among all philosophical theories on the beginning of the universe, the boldness of which does not surprise us only because we are exposed to it from infancy.

She wrote a review of T.S. Eliot's play The Confidential Clerk that astonished the author with its insight, and Eliot's praise encouraged her to begin a critical study of his work, but she was overdosing on Dexadrine in order to suppress appetite and work longer hours, which had the effect of making her temporarily deranged, convinced that Eliot's writing was full of coded threatening messages to her.

biosphere 0.99_k (ants and agriculture)

Fischer, Der kleine Darwin, 2009, S. 128

Even complex behaviours regarding the environment are convergent. Agriculture is also practised by ants. Their "grain" is a fungus, which is cultivated in extensive underground complexes, complete with rubbish storage and fresh air ducts.
Upon closer inspection parallels with our cultivation of food plants become obvious.

Karl Marx, Das Kapital Bd. 3, MEW, S. 784.

From the perspective of a more advanced economic societal formation, private property of parts of the globe by individuals will appear distasteful, not unlike having a human being as one's private property.

Berliner Luft

And then we must not forget that he has lived fifty years in Berlin. And the state of society there is such, that delicacy will not much avail you; and a man is forced to be vehement, and even rough, if he would keep his head above water. (trans. S.M. Fuller)

nuncle, ningle, neumes

There is a natural development from bilingual dictionaries to dictionaries of “hard words” (Hüllen calls them “crypto-bilingual”), and eventually to comprehensive monolingual dictionaries. | […] an ingle, defined in dictionaries from 1598 through 1658 as a subservient boy hired or kept for sodomy […] In short, neither the “hermaphrodite” nor the “ningle” in Satiromastix has any force as evidence to support the reading “Wellbeck, where my gossip made fat Harry Ogle his mistress” describes Jonson initiating a homosexual relationship with a corpulent sixtyish subordinate blood relative of his aristocratic hostess. | […] where even the most intellectually stumbling character can pronounce the word “honorificabilitudinatibus”.
